How Ruck 4 Freedom Came About

When my son joined the military...

5 years ago, my perspective on Freedom instantly changed. During the time he served, I experienced all the emotions that come from being the mom of a Soldier, and met many other families who were like me, adapting their family to support and strengthen their Service Member. I felt the sacrifice first hand as we missed holidays together, constantly changed family plans, went weeks without communication, and constantly had a worry within me that could not be softened.

During this time I often wished there was something I could do. I knew our Soldiers endured hunger, discomfort, lack of sleep, and a host of mental struggles. Often I felt helpless, but in moments where I was uncomfortable, or I struggled physically to do something, I was able to feel a small bond with my Son, and how he must have felt. I became very aware of all the blessings we have in our Country. The world may be uncertain, but our freedom and the opportunities we have continue to be protected by an army of valiant men and women, who are willing to lay down their lives for us.

This is where RUCK 4 FREEDOM was born.

In the military the Ruck Sack is the backpack our Service Members carry with all of their gear.  It sometimes weighs up to 150 pounds, and they carry it for miles.  It is their lifeline.

RUCK 4 FREEDOM will give all of us the opportunity to do something hard to give back to those who give have given so much.

Please join me February 11th as we walk in a 5k march.  Some will carry a weighted backpack and walk side by side with our Soldiers, as well as each other.

As a community we are strong, our Freedom is safe, and this will give us the opportunity to show our Service Members, family, and friends that we are willing to give our time and be a little uncomfortable to say thank you.

I invite you to join me, be a sponsor, create a team, and be part of the day that will show our gratitude for the freedom we all love.

The official charity of RUCK 4 FREEDOM is HOPE Mental Health Foundation.  Funds will be used to benefit the mental health of Soldiers, and their families through the gift of therapy.  This event will also contribute to Delta Dogs, a Foundation that provides service dogs to our Veterans.
